Minor Ailments

So what is a Minor Ailment?

Minor ailments are conditions that can be self-treated with medicines available over the counter from your local Silverfields Chemist. Silverfields Chemist is actively involved in the Minor Ailments scheme.

What is a Minor Ailment Scheme?
The minor ailment scheme allows you easier access to the same advice, treatment and medicines from your pharmacist as you would get from your GP, without having to wait for a GP appointment. You can also get your medicines free if you are normally exempt from paying prescription charges!

If you have any of the ailments listed in this factsheet follow the steps below:
1) Take this factsheet to your GP receptionist and ask for a minor ailments voucher (one voucher per patient). The receptionist will give you more information.
2) Take the voucher to a participating pharmacy.
3) The pharmacist will ask you a few questions and give you the appropriate advice and treatment.

If you normally pay for your prescriptions you will be charged the retail price of the medicine or prescription charge, which ever is cheaper.

Minor Ailments included in the scheme can be any of the following:
Athletes Foot • Back Pain • Constipation • Contact Dermatitis • Cough • Diarrhoea • Fever (pyrexia) • Hay Fever • Headache • Head Lice • Indigestion/Heartburn • Insect Bites & Stings • Mouth Ulcers • Soft Tissues Injury • Sore Throat • Teething • Vaginal Thrush • Viral Upper Respiratory Tract Infection • Cold Sores (Herpes Simplex) • Haemorrhoids (Piles) • Infective Conjunctivitis • Nappy Rash • Primary Dysmenorrhoea (Period Pain) • Warts and Verrucae • Ringworm • Threadworm • Toothache
